The problems faced by MSMEs in the city of Mataram are lack of capital, difficulty in promotion, tight business
competition, difficulty in raw materials, and lack of human resources with high skills in production and
management. This study aims to analyze the role of the Mataram City Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs Service
in developing the MSME sector and modernizing Cooperatives in the city of Mataram. This study will provide an
exploration related to the actions taken by the Mataram City Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs Service in
encouraging the role of MSMEs and increasing the modernization of Cooperatives in Mataram. This study is an
exploratory and descriptive qualitative study. Data analysis strategies that can be used in the analysis are data
reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the analysis, conclusions can be
drawn in the form of the role of the Mataram City Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs Service can be seen from the
empowerment strategy given to MSME actors. The Department of Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs of Mataram
City has a strategic role in increasing the empowerment of SME actors through training, counseling and policy
formulation so that with this strategy it can form more qualified resources and more feasible business facilities
and infrastructure. The role of the Department of Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs in increasing the
modernization of cooperatives in Mataram City, namely empowering cooperative members and providing
guidance to cooperative members
